54 Powerful Bible Verses About the Goodness of God
Before we dive into Bible verses about the goodness of God, it’s important to understand that our view of God has a BIG impact on our lives. We see the world through a lens of how we define ourselves, the world around us and God. Our view of God will not only impact how we think, but also how we feel and act. More specifically, if we don’t know that God is good, then every hard thing we face will be seen through a lens of lies. This is why it is so important to know His Word. It is through the Word of God that we come to know our Heavenly Father. The goodness of the Lord is seen through the character of God and God’s promises. Bible verses about the goodness of God will reveal the good things God is doing AND His attributes.
Benefits of Knowing God’s Goodness
God’s goodness encompasses the belief that God is inherently kind, just, and merciful. He offers guidance, grace, and love to His people. This goodness is often seen as a source of comfort, hope, and guidance for believers. It means God’s actions are driven by love and a desire for the good of His people. This understanding encourages faith, gratitude, and obedience among the faithful. As I said a minute ago, our view of God will shape how we do life.
In believing God is good, I will want to do the will of God, knowing He has good for me. Believing in God’s goodness will cause me to want to draw close to Him. His goodness will strengthen me, fill me with courage and cause me to obey Him. All of this because I know that His goodness undergirds all that He calls me to do. Conversely, when I don’t believe that goodness is an attribute of God, then I will seek my own will over His will. I will move away from Him, rebel and be full of fear. God. Is. Good.
What does it mean that God is good?
Below is an excerpt from the site- gotquestions.org; It does a wonderful job of describing God’s goodness. I especially want to repeat part of the quote for you, “…His intentions and motivations are always good…”
“The fact that God is good means that He has no evil in Him, His intentions and motivations are always good, He always does what is right, and the outcome of His plan is always good . There is nothing unpleasant, evil, or dark in Him. The Bible teaches that God’s goodness extends from His nature to everything that He does. “’The LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations’ .”
John 3:16 {Jesus the Savior}
When I think of God’s “intentions and motivations” toward the world, John 3:16 comes to mind…
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
We can easily conclude God’s goodness through this one verse. First, we learn the object of God‘s love is the whole world. He didn’t wait for the world to turn to him before he loved the world. He loved us at our darkest hour. His love is big enough to extend to all mankind. He’s so loved the world, or said another way… He loved the whole world to such a great extent that he was moved to action by that love. God didn’t just feel bad about the lost souls that were perishing. He did something about it. This is the greatest evidence of God being good!
John 10:11-14 {Jesus the Good Shepherd}
John 10:11-14 – I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
Once saved, we receive so many spiritual benefits. It’s incomprehensible that He would save a sinner and dwell in the believer and sealing them for all eternity. He invests in His people by promising to complete a good work in them. Additionally, He gives believers a life of purpose and even want to spend all eternity with each believer. If that isn’t evidence of God’s goodness to believers, what is?!

Bible verses about the goodness of God are clearly seen in salvation through Christ alone!

This indwelling transforms and helps us to become more Christ-like and live according to the will of God. This means that the Fruit of the Spirit (God’s Spirit) is increasingly reflected in the life of a believer.
