My Favorite Bible Verse About Depending on God

Trusting God is something that has not come easy for me. God spoke to me through the following verse…

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

This Scripture directly tells us where to put our trust (in the Lord) and where not to put our trust (in our own understanding). I often trust what I can see rather than what I cannot see. I make decisions based on my 5 senses more often than I’d like to admit. In other words, I lean on my own understanding, my own resources and my own strength to accomplish what I believe needs to be done. God continues to open my eyes and convicts my heart when I veer away from trusting Him. His desire is that I would put my trust in His character and His promises because they are unchanging. He knows that there are many benefits to depending on Him. He desires to carry the burdens for me through dependence on Him.

Definition of Faith {leading to dependence on God}

According to Paul in Hebrews chapter 11, faith is the assurance of things hoped for, but not seen. In other words, we can’t always see the promises of God, however they stand true and trustworthy because every Word of God is Truth. Paul goes on to give many examples of Bible stories of faith. Chapter 11 is often called the ‘Faith Hall of Fame’ because is outlines people of the Old Testament who had faith and depended on God to fulfill His promises.

Hebrews 11:1-3 – Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Why should we depend on God?

As we review Bible verses about depending on God, we get to know the heart of God. His Word is the best way to understand His attributes and character. Consequently, as we understand the character of God, we begin to increasingly depend on Him. God’s Word will build our faith. So let’s talk about God’s love for His creation.

First and foremost, the love of God is demonstrated in sending the Son of Man (Jesus) to pay the debt of our sin through His death on the cross. There is no greater love than that! If God the Father is willing to provide for our most desperate need of salvation and willing to sacrifice His own Son, then we can depend on Him to provide everything we need. This is firm evidence that we can trust God. His love, power, wisdom and sovereignty means that He is trustworthy. There is nothing that He can’t do- He is the giver of every good gift.

James 1:17 – Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Bible Verses About Depending on God and the Benefits

The following Bible verses about depending on God point to the many benefits of dependence on God. Dependence on God is the most critical part of the Christian life. It will change our entire experience living in this world.

One of my favorite attributes of God is His faithfulness. When we depend on God we can be assured that He will come through for us in the perfect way that we need. Our Heavenly Father knows us better than we know ourselves. Additionally, God’s Word declares that He is Trustworthy and True. He alone is the source of our security, provision, peace, and divine guidance. When we trust in Him and seek Him wholeheartedly, we can experience His faithfulness and see His hand at work in our lives. These verses assure us that depending on God brings relief from burdens, help in times of weakness, rest for our souls, and deliverance from troubles. God’s grace is more than sufficient for us, and He promises to be with us and provide the strength we need.

1. Strength

God is our source of strength and empowerment. When we depend on Him, we are tapping into God’s strength in times of weakness. His power works through us, enabling us to accomplish what seems impossible.

Isaiah 26:3 – You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

3. Provision

Depending on God means acknowledging Him as the Source of everything we need. He promises to meet our needs and supply us with all that we require. Trusting in Him allows us to experience His faithfulness in providing for us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

4. Bear Fruit

Trusting in the God of Hope brings about much fruit in His children. It is through our dependence on Him that we reflect peace, joy, goodness, patience and faithfulness. Apart from trusting in the Word of the Lord, we are more likely to reflect worry, distress, self dependence and impatience.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 – Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.

Proverbs 11:28 – Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.

Proverbs 28:25 – A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.

2 Corinthians 12:9 – But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

God is our Protector and Deliverer. He shields us from harm, guards us from evil, and delivers us from trials and temptations. He is our refuge in times of trouble, providing a safe haven and shelter.

Psalm 62:8 – Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

Psalm 34:17 – When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.

7. Rest

When I depend on God to provide me with all I need such as strength, protection, help and peace then I am able to rest. This sin torn world that we live in makes causes weariness and resting in the Maker of Heaven and Earth refreshes our souls.

Call on the name of the Lord- He is your helper. This is an incredible benefit to depending on God.
