21 Bible Verses for Confidence & Self Esteem
In this article we are going to cover 21 of the best Bible verses for confidence and self esteem. This is such a powerful topic because we all live our lives based on our beliefs. If lies about who we are, our identity and our value have made their way into our heart then we will live according to those lies. Those lies will impact our interactions with others, our relationships, our successes-literally every single thing we do.
If I don’t believe I have value, I will allow people to treat me poorly, I will aim low in my goals, I will experience anxiety and depression. Confidence and self esteem is powerful. So how do we figure out our identity and value? Is it based on our performance? Does our value depend on our talents? If it does, then we are in trouble! If you a follower of Christ, then I have lots of good news for you.
Read on to find out where your identity and value comes from…
Confidence and Self Esteem Defined
Confidence is defined as, “a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.” Self-esteem is defined as, “confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect.” Notice how both of those definitions depend on your gifts, talents and abilities. What happens if those things aren’t what the world values? Then does that decrease your worth and value? Can you see how I am standing on shaky ground if my value is attached to my abilities? And what if I lose those talents or abilities? Does that reduce my value? As we go through the best Bible verses on confidence and self-esteem, we will see that true confidence comes from Someone much bigger. As children of God, our value is in Christ alone. Such confidence comes from Christ. Nothing can reduce or remove our value. Praise God!
Confidence in Christ
The first step to true confidence is looking at God’s Word. We must find our confidence and self esteem in His abilities and what He has done for us, in us and through us. This means we have to stop leaning on our own understanding of value and worth. The world says you have value if you work hard enough and it’s based on your own abilities. God’s Word says a very different thing. He says we are made in the image of God therefore we have value. So I guess that means you have to answer this question: Are you attaching your value to the work of your hands or the work of Christ? (Check out Biblical Affirmations)
Best Bible Verses for Confidence and Self Esteem
1. Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
You are loved in all of your imperfections. God’s love is not dependent on perfection, works, accomplishments, status or anything else that the world values. His love is most clearly demonstrated in His willingness to send His Son to die on the cross so that we can be in relationship with Him. There is no greater love than One who lays down His life for us.
2. Ephesians 6:10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Ephesians 6:10

If I am trusting in my own confidence , my own strength, my own human wisdom or my own resources- I will find myself lacking in every way. The beginning of our confidence is trusting what the Word of the Lord says about you rather than trusing in the work of your own hands. We must fight to believe Truth. But God’s Word says the work is done, we are valuable because we are made in the image of God. What are you going to believe? As you review the best Bible verses for confidence and self esteem, consider writing a few Scriptures that resonate with you on notecards and meditating on Truth. Such a great post! Thank you! It’s so good to be reminded that our value comes from the Lord and not from what we do or what we have.
yeah the thing is it really matters more what you really, actually, truly think of yourself rather than what you are fighting to believe in. I think this is something people are missing. Would you rather be happy in a delusion or unhappy in the truth of how you really feel? I guess most people would choose the first, understandably.
